The Nascar Canadian Tire Series News: After over 2,300 race laps, over 10,000 miles of travelling it all came down to the last race to decide the Championship in the 12 race NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. Andrew Ranger (No. 27 Wal-Mart/Tide Ford)went into the race with just a 41 point lead over D. J. Kennington(No. 17 Castrol Dodge). Ranger qualified 11th on the grid and Kennington secured 15th place. As the race progressed through the first 80 laps Kennington moved up the pack and Ranger was stuck midfield and then on lap 98 Kennington's motor blew and it was up to Ranger to stay on the lead lap and finish in the top 10. He crossed the line in 6th position and claimed the title of the first Champion of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. “This is really something to win the first NASCAR Canadian Tire Series championship,” said Ranger. “I came into the year thinking that a top-five finish in points would be a great year, but to win the championship is way more than I thought was possible. The competition in this series is tough. It really was a great year.” By winning the championship, Ranger earns a guaranteed starting position in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway on October 19-20. Negotiations are ongoing for Ranger to participate in the showcase event that is telecast live by SPEED. |
